As the social media creator for the Waialua Surf Shop, I sat down with owner Steve Matthews in the summer of 2023 when I started on the team and we strategized what we wanted to prioritize as far as content and brand goes. When thinking about putting out content, we wanted to show people how authentic and people oriented the Waialua Surf Shop is and how each member of the team plays a unique role in the grand scheme of the factory, whether it’s glassing, shaping, or carrying boards around. I wanted to illustrate the team including drawn out elements that visually portrays each member of Third Stone / The Waialua Surf Shop using as little words as possible.

 

I talked to each individually about their passions and favorite things and came up with this series of each member of the team. I wanted to include a “catch phrase” for each team member that they often can be heard saying as a little memento in each portrait. Some are left empty as I’m still listening closely…
