Pumpka 3000

Fairytale Inspired Comic 2 of 2

As the secondary part of our assignment, we were told after making the first strip to take a specific element such as a character or object from the first comic and make another panel that furthered the story of that item. Of course, I chose the pumpkin carriage and named it the Pumpka 3000 with wonders of built in features. I did a mix of writing funny captions that relates to the story of Cinderella and Robin Hood but also would sound like a new car ad.

Combining these elements was an interesting way to put a spin on the original strip and extend the story in a way that is more unique than just leaving it as was. Incorporating Red and Cinderella into the strip as they stare dreamy-eyed at the pumpkin coach was my way of heightening the desire for the luxurious vehicle.

Fairytale Inspired Comic 1 of 2

For my drawing and visualization class at STAMPS School of art and design, we were assigned to make a comic strip without captions based on an old fairytale as inspiration. I chose to do a mashup of cinderella and Little Red Riding hood where they are friends with boy problems just like anyone else. This style was different for me because I usually use different brushes and don't make things as comic-book like but the challenge was fun because we had to communicate our story with just the visuals.

In the story, Cinderella gets stood up by her date and steals the key from his pocket when he finally does come so she can drive off- following this Lil Red gets catfished by the wolf on "Timber" her local forest dating app, and her and Cinderella team up against him when they find he does not resemble the sexy selfie he sent Red.

Incorporating humor into the comics in order to touch on a topic as real as catfishing was a fun challenge, especially with the assignment being melded with old school fairytale. Modernizing the characters to look like teenagers was a joy. I wanted the comic panel to look graphic and uneven to give the feeling of uneasiness to the reader.
