Local Band from Oahu, Hawaii Show Posters

When I had my first art show with Wyland Galleries Haleiwa in December, Backset performed at the event and I got to meet the awesome group of North Shore raised boys in the band. Their rock / reggae style mixed with lead singer Gabriel Goes, who performed on the Voice this last summer of 2023, made for an incredible sound and group. I played with the band for the Winter of 2023 singing harmony and made some of their event posters. Shows included Backset playing at Aroma Coffee in Waikiki, a rooftop venue on a hotel with a big pool. I illustrated the band from the point of view of the pool with the lights and music blasting outward above the surface, a chiller turtle in the water front and center. For their Backset and Twin Fin show, the theme was 70s surf rock so I found inspiration for fonts and colors and created the groovy show poster posted above.

More recently, Backset went to San Diego to start off their tour with band Surfer Girl and had a pit stop in Ocean Beach. The venue where they would be performing called The Holding Company is just down the street from the Ocean Beach pier, so I wanted the poster to include Gabriel’s guitar neck turning into the OB pier to tie everything together. I just so happened go be staying at the hostel across the street from the venue for an Art Show in San Diego with Gecko and was able to come see the show which was a big success.
